Ride to Biketoberfest and National Chrome Divas Meet & Greet 2010 (also known as "the one where Melissa and Bunny didn't get a speeding ticket")

The Divas headed out to Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest 2010 and Meet & Greet with other national Chrome Divas chapters today.

Melissa and Bunny had a slight interruption along the way...
After Officer K was nice enough not to give us speeding tickets, we caught up with the rest of the pack and all rolled onto Main Street together where we had lunch, shopped, hit the beach and did a lot of people and bike watching.

Just some of the bikes that really stood out...

Later, we headed over to Caribbean Jack's to meet up with some other sister Divas.

Overnight Trip to St. Augustine

The Chrome Divas headed out bright and early on Saturday, September 25, 2010 to St. Augustine, Florida for our second overnight trip of the year.

Some pictures along the way...

Trina left her house before the sun came up to make meet-up from her side of town.

The Divas giving a little "Bunny shout out" before kickstands up.  (Bunny ears noted)
All was going smoothly until Carlos, Akili's bike, decided he didn't want to ride anymore.

Plan A: Ride on in to St. Augustine, check in and have lunch there.
Plan B: Have lunch at Finn's Beachside Pub at Flagler Beach while waiting for mechanic to pick up Akili's bike.

Debi, our theatrical Diva, at Finn's.

Duain loading up Akili's bike.  He drove all the way from Orlando to tow it back and got Akili back to her house safely.  We think Duain's a Chrome Diva Hero!

Plan B Continued:  Keri and Joni stay behind with Akili until mechanic arrives from Orlando.  The rest of the Divas continue on to St. Augustine.  Here Keri and Joni are gearing up to rejoin the pack.

Keri and Joni catching up.

All the Divas (minus Akili) made it to St. Augustine and enjoyed the day touring around and later had a very delicious seafood dinner at Salt-Water Cowboys...

The next morning the Divas had breakfast at Oasis and then headed back to Orlando.  A missed turn along the way resulted in a route that turned out to be a very beautiful, scenic ride home.  Another "found" gem!

Homes for Heroes Charity Ride

On this September 11th anniversary the Chrome Divas of Orlando attended the First Annual Charity Ride Event benefitting the Central Florida Homes for Heroes Foundation.  The Homes For Heroes Foundation provides and/or coordinates financial assistance and housing resources to the heroes of our nation such as military personnel, police/peace officers, firefighters and first responders who are in need.

The event started at 8:00 a.m. at The WingHouse of Altamonte Springs, where breakfast was served before 125 registered bikes paraded out for a nice ride to Orlando Harley-Davidson.  At the Harley shop we had a booth set up to introduce ourselves to some of the women riders who attended the event and get the word out about who the Chrome Divas of Orlando are.

Give A Kid A Backpack

The Divas braved one of Orlando's famous afternoon summer storms this Friday the 13th  -- we drove the cages! -- and headed out to the Amway Arena for a backpack stuffing event for Give A Kid A Backpack and HopeNow International.  These organizations put the call out to the community to help stuff and hand out 9,000 backpacks for a back-to-school event for struggling families in Central Florida.  The response was so overwhelming, that by the time we arrived  (the last day of the three-day event), everything was done but the stacking for the next day's distribution.  Central Florida volunteers, you rock!!

No, we didn't take the short bus.

Backpack stacking

Time for a little goofing off.

Okay, a lot of goofing off.
(And this was before wings and beer were involved.)

Celebrity Mascot Games

Divas Debi, Chris and Sharon attended the 18th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games Meet and Greet Dinner at the Amway Arena this evening. (Zazoo the Clown made it out too!)  Proceeds for this event benefit New Hope for Kids, a wonderful organization that the Chrome Divas of Orlando are proud to be a part of.

(From the Celebrity Mascot Games Website):

This is the ONLY event of its kind in the world. The 18th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games will feature 30 mascots from sports teams across the country competing in a variety of games during three exciting shows.

More than 15,000 fans will enjoy thrilling and pulse-pounding competition, as mascots from Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA and the Arena Football League battle through gladiator themed games, to see who is the true champion of the mascot world.

Proceeds from the Celebrity Mascot Games benefit New Hope for Kids, an Orlando based not-for-profit organization. New Hope For Kids grants wishes to children under the age of 18 who are suffering from life-threatening illness and provides grief support for chirdren who have lost a family member. Since its inception, New Hope has granted more than 3,000 wishes, focusing on the children of Central Florida. In addition, since the first Mascot Games in 1992, this event raised more than $250,000 for New Hope for Kids.
